INTRODUCTION

Fast, furious, acceleration and many more terms to describe the information system, just to fulfill the needs of customer, the demand of stakeholder and others. This is all because that the information system help us a lot in daily life such as internet, mobile phone, Bluetooth and many more. Although there are a lot of modern devices but we still lack of software application to make our life more ease and safer. For example, in Haiti, one of the victim of earthquake said that he was really proud to has a software for first aid that inside his iPhone had help him a lot to survive and save another victim until he was rescue by the rescue team.

So, as to solve these problems, we introduce to you, UTM Web Mobile, a UTM website on mobile application. This application will apply to the mobile that has touchpad such as iPhone. It will help the student and staff to access the e-learning UTM at any place rather than sit in front the laptop or desktop. It just easy to access and yet the student will be no more kind of worry if want to view any lecture note from e-learning. Beside this application will be simpler to prevent the students get any confuse when using this application. In addition, this software will provide the function that the student frequently uses, for example, to view time table, to view lecture note and others.

OBJECTIVE

1. Create a new platform for the user especially for the student and staff UTM to surf the UTM websites.

- By a new platform that will be created, all student and staff will have opportunity to surf the UTM websites. Some of the student and staff did not have time to spend for surfing through personal computer or laptop, thus through this new platform, student and staff could easily surf the UTM websites without losing their time behind.

2. Increase the connectivity among the student and also staff UTM between them.cc

- Among student and staff usually there were gap which could destroy understanding affected from the conventional web browser which is through personal computers. The new platform could manage this problem which commonly appears.

3. Increase the student and staff UTM inclination to the UTM websites.

- Increase the use of the UTM websites as the main websites for the student and the staff. This will bring good affect to the web and also to the user for the websites. Students also would realize the importance of the UTM websites as their main website in their life.

4. Create a new opportunity for the UTM web developer to have next generation web surfing approach.

- Through the new next generation web browsing devices, the developers of UTM websites will gain opportunity to bring UTM respect as the engineering research university which must follow the latest technology that have discovered. Thus, the latest approach of web browsing through hand phones especially touched screen hand phones give major impact to the industry of web of education and also as the pioneer for the university websites browsing through hand phones.

5. Provide alternative to the students and staff to surf UTM websites.

- Alternatively, the student and staff will have other approach to surf the UTM websites. Students can surf the websites through their own hand phones and also their laptop or personal computer. Moreover, the student and staff could also fully use their hand phones as their device to connect with other people and friends.

The reason is the user can use the advantages of mobile such as can access in any place, easy to carry, easy to access the application, and get the needed information in fast.

PROBLEMS IN EXISTING / CURRENT APPLICATION

UTM website is available at this time has many weaknesses. We identify these weaknesses through observation and interview consumers.

First, we identify that the web site at UTM now too crowded with information that is not needed by users, especially students UTM. Therefore, the information is only checking the eyes look.

Secondly, we attempt to create a line using the Internet does not belong to the UTM, the amount of time required to enter the website UTM requires a lot of time. As such, many users waste time waiting at the ready UTM website upload.

We also do a chat interview with the lecturers and students. Some feedback we received from them. In our report we also attach the feedback we get from them.

Many users feel difficult to reach the information they want because too many menus that are not useful for students. Access from the main page that they will require them to go to some page that they do not want. Therefore, we will wish to facilitate students to achieve what they want with one click only.

Consumers also feel UTM website at present should be divided into several types according to the type of user. For example web interface for lecturers, students and visitors. Therefore, UTM website will not be too visible and users of each type of fiber can be achieved.

SUGGESTION

A light application that really suite with touched screen hands heels or hand phones as a UTM websites browser which have these criteria:

1. View

According to the original web site, http://www.utm.my/ there was some unnecessary things that are appear on this website. Relatively, when a web that would be surfed through a smaller view need less graphical interfaces, less selections, less choices, and also less number of pages. Thus, a new graphical approach must be effectively created based on the graphical interfaces that will be suite with the new web browser application. Based on this, there were several graphical approaches to implement on the touched screen mobile phones.

ü Minimized characters that appear on the webpage.

ü Removed information’s that are irrelevant.

ü Removed graphical interfaces that are messy and unimportant.

ü Reduced size of the web.

ü Use appropriate size of column that suit for the user to select or click.

ü Remove some unimportant website or page.

2. Performance

Based on the original website, the loading time for the website is quite long. If we use the intranet, there may be fast, but if we use internet by using broadband or wImax, the loading time is disappointing. Thus the non functional requirements for the application as UTM web browser require a lot of improvement that mostly affect the performance of the application as the web browser.

ü Integrated with special web host that suit with the touch screen web browsing.

Example, the applications integrated with http:/touch.utm.my/.

ü Reduce the size of web that can fit the application and also minimize the loading time when surfing the web.

ü Build the applications based on basic web programming language such as php, html, cxs, and so on.

ü Use java language as the application coding that is suit with major hand phones especially touch screen hand phones.
